A New Caney man is dead after his single engine plane crashed in a pasture near Shepherd, Texas Sunday afternoon.

A New Caney man is dead after his single engine plane crashed in a pasture near Shepherd, Texas Sunday afternoon.

According to the National Transportation Safety Board, the experimental aircraft broke apart just after take-off from the Lake Water Wheel Airport.

The pilot is identified as 77-year-old James Goldsmith of New Caney. Investigators with the NTSB are now trying to figure out what caused that crash.
