Tomball man on trial for killing 3 in drunken driving crash A Tomball man facing life in prison began trial Wednesday, charged with killing three people in a drunken driving crash in 2016 in Spring. The Harris County Precinct 4 Constable's Office identified the victims as Emilio Avila, 34, Hilda Avila, 42, and Mauricio Ramires, 18. Valdez has been arrested several times and has three prior convictions for driving while intoxicated, court records show. Although DWI's are typically misdemeanors, after two convictions, they can be upgraded to felony charges, which carry prison time. If convicted, Valdez faces a punishment ranging from 5 years to life in prison.

Suspected drunk driver kills 3 in Spring crash

The incident occurred just after midnight Saturday at FM 2920 and Kuykendahl Road in Spring. Authorities say three men in a black car were making a left turn on FM 2920 when a man in a pickup truck was speeding eastbound, ran a red light and slammed into their vehicle.

Deputies say two men and a woman, all in their 30s, were killed when the suspected drunk driver plowed his pickup truck into a car. He then allegedly drove off in an attempt to flee capture.

Wrecker driver Lenniere Victoria said he was just down the road when the crash happened. Victoria spotted the driver of the truck running off and chased after him. The wrecker driver, who ran track and played football, took off after the driver.

Klein Oak HS students grieve after senior killed in deadly DWI crash

Classmates of one of the seniors killed in a deadly DWI crash are trying to deal with the sudden death of Mauricio Ramires.

He and his parents were killed in the crash over the weekend. Ramirez was a senior at Klein Oak High School and was getting ready to graduate in just two weeks.

They were identified as Hilda Avila, 42, Emilio Avila, 34, and Mauricio Ramires, 18. Two surviving children, a 13-year-old boy and a 9-year-old girl, were not with the rest of their family at the time of the accident. The three were reportedly coming home from church.

Bond set for man charged in crash that killed teen, parents

During a court appearance Monday morning, bond for Valdez was set at $100,000 per victim for a total of $300,000.

According to Valdez's criminal record, this was his fourth DWI charge.

The family is especially upset because Valdez already had three prior DUI convictions. They feel he should have still been behind bars for his most recent 2013 offense.
