Dense fog may be to blame for several car wrecks that spurred the shutdown of Interstate 37 on the far southeast side Thursday, according to the San Antonio Fire Department.

Dense fog may be to blame for several car wrecks that spurred the shutdown of Interstate 37 on the far southeast side Thursday, according to the San Antonio Fire Department.

Accidents in both, northbound and southbound, lanes on I-37 at Hardy Road were reported.

Approximately 30 cars were involved in various wrecks along the highway, causing stop-and-go traffic all the way back to Loop 1604, according to the Bexar County Sheriff's Office.

Several injuries were reported; however, none appeared to be life threatening, according to BCSO.

Deputies at the scene said visibility in the area was approximately 100 feet or less. I-37 southbound was shutdown at Loop 410; northbound lanes were shutdown at Loop 1604.

An estimated time when the highway would be re-opened was not provided.
