A young girl died at an area hospital Wednesday after being struck by a vehicle in a hit-and-run accident at the Austin Pointe apartment complex in north San Antonio, according to the San Antonio Police Department.
Authorities said 9-year-old Tatyana Babineaux was crossing the street when she was hit by a small white pickup truck around 7:15 a.m., in the 11700 block of Braesview, just off N.W. Military Hwy.
Fire officials said Babineaux was not breathing and was rushed to University Hospital, where she died shortly after 10 a.m.
Nobody witnessed the accident; however, two crossing guards saw a truck with tinted windows and front-end damage leaving the scene, according to officers.
"The bumper was damaged and dragging and the head light hanging down on the same side," SAPD wrote in a statement.
The San Antonio Police Department's Blue Eagle helicopter searched the area for the driver of the white truck. .
Larkspur Elementary school was placed on a 'soft lockdown' due to the hit-and-run accident, according to officials with Northside Independent School District.
