Two slightly injured after SUV and tractor-trailer collide, forcing tractor-trailer to fall off overpass.

A crash between an SUV and an 18-wheeler on Southeast Loop 410 Monday night caused the tractor-trailer to roll off an overpass, landing overturned on the ground below, fire officials said.

The two vehicles caught fire, but both drivers were able to escape on their own. They were taken to local hospitals and are expected to recover, officials said.

The accident happened around 7:35 p.m. Monday on northbound Loop 410 at East Southcross Boulevard. Northbound lanes were initially shut down, and traffic in both directions was expected to be held up for several hours.

More than 15 fire and emergency responder units were called to the scene, including a hazardous materials crew to clean up the spilled diesel from the 18-wheeler.
