Man killed in hit and run on West Commerce identified

Monday morning the Bexar County Medical Examiner identified a man who was struck by an SUV around 10 Sunday nights on the 37000 block of West Commerce as 66 year old, Rudy Luna. Officer say Luna just walked out of a restaurant at 23th and West Commerce when he stepped out into the street.

Luna's wife, Virginia Contreras, said he had just picked up her dinner when he was hit. "He called me. He said, 'You want to eat?' I said, 'OK.' He said, 'Well, I'm going to stop and get you some fish,' and he never made it," Contreras said. "Rudy was a good man with me. I'm disabled. He was helping me." Luna was crossing the street to get to the bus stop when the pickup struck him. He was not in a crosswalk, police said.

Driver flees after man, 66, struck and killed on West Side

Rudy Luna died from injuries sustained in the crash in the 3800 block of W. Commerce that occurred around 10:16 p.m. Police said the driver of the truck did not slow down and fled eastbound of W. Commerce.
Luna was struck by a red SUV, and eyewitnesses say that driver never stopped. The victim was taken to the hospital where he later died.
