Three fall from I-35 overpass after early-morning crash

Two women and the infant got out of one of the cars and were standing near the bridge railing when the two other vehicles crashed into the wrecked cars.

Yeager said it was not clear whether he women elected to jump from the bridge to avoid being hit by the careening vehicles or were knocked over the railing by the force of the subsequent collisions.

The three were taken to the hospital, but the baby sustained only a minor abrasion because of the efforts of his mother to protect the child from the fall, Swanton said.

“The two women are said to have broken bones and internal injuries,” Swanton said. “The baby has only a scratch. It is believed this is due to the mother shielding the baby during the fall and doing everything she could to protect her child on impact with the roadway.”
