The patient, whose name was not immediately disclosed while relatives were notified of the accident, was en route to United Regional Hospital in Wichita Falls from Waurika, Okla., when the crash occurred just before 2 a.m., according to a statement on the city’s website.

A Duncan-based Air Evac Lifeteam helicopter was taking Rhodes from Waurika to United Regional Health System in Wichita Falls after Rhodes was shot late Friday.

The pilot, Zechariah Smith, 36, of Moore, was taken to United Regional Health System in Wichita Falls. Flight nurse Leslie Stewart, 27, of Duncan, and flight paramedic Erasmus Vandercolff, 51, of Wichita Falls, are hospitalized at Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas, where both were in critical condition Monday.

All three reportedly have severe burns. The cause of the crash is currently unknown.
A medical helicopter crashed early Saturday morning outside of a Wichita Falls, Texas hospital where it was headed.  The patient it was transporting from nearby Oklahoma was killed the pilot and two medical personnel who were aboard were injured, authorities said. The helicopter, operated by Air Evac Lifeteam, was transporting the patient from Waurika, Oklahoma, to United Regional Health Care in Wichita Falls, about 35 miles to the southwest, when it crashed just before 2 a.m., according to Fire Chief Jon Reese. "The crews are pretty tore up, families are devastated," Reese said. The patient died immediately. The pilot was in serious but stable condition at United Regional. The flight nurse and paramedic were in critical condition at the Parkland Hospital burn unit in Dallas, about 125 miles to the southeast. Their names were not immediately released, but the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation said the patient who died may have been the victim of a Friday night shooting at an apartment in Waurika. The Bell 206 LongRanger III helicopter crashed on a downtown street adjacent to a parking lot and missed nearby buildings. Reese, the Wichita Falls fire chief, said an Air Evac Lifeteam crew already awaiting the chopper's arrival reached the crash site first and found the aircraft intact, but on fire. The aircraft involved was based out of Duncan, Oklahoma.
