A driver is fighting for his life after a head on collision in Suffolk on Monday.

Just after 2 p.m., calls came in about a crash in the 1200 block of Portsmouth Boulevard (Route 58). Police and fire-rescue crews responded to find a Ford Ranger pickup truck and dump truck had been involved in the crash. The pickup truck driver had to be extricated from his vehicle and was airlifted to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital for treatment of life-threatening injures. The dump truck driver was transported to Sentara Obici Hospital for injuries that are not life-threatening. Preliminary investigation suggests the pickup truck was traveling west when it crossed into the eastbound lanes and was hit.
