Aleighthia Bolt, 29, seriously injured, airlifted to hospital, Teresa Bolt, 48, seriously injured, taken to hospital, after their SUV leaves the U.S. 52 roadway near Hillsville, and overturns multiple times.

A tragic set of circumstances led to the wreck in Hillsville on Wednesday that resulted in a Hillsville woman being airlifted. Sometime before 2 p.m., the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office responded to 7603 Coulson Church Road in the Laurel community in reference to the death of Castus Eugene Horton. “Mr. Horton and a friend were cutting a large tree as it lay on the ground,” the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office said in a press release Thursday. “Unfortunately the tree rolled over on Mr. Horton as he cut the tree.” Those assisting at the scene were Carroll County EMS, Laurel Rescue Squad and Carroll County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Rocky Dalton. Shortly after that, Mr. Horton’s daughter, Teresa Bolt, was en route to the scene of the accident involving her father when she wrecked her vehicle on U.S. 52 in Hillsville. “Mrs. Bolt had learned her father had been injured in an accident,” Virginia State Police 1st Sgt. Mike Musser said. “She did not learn of his passing until after rescue crews arrived on the scene of her car wreck.” According to Virginia State Police Trooper S.M. Phillips, the accident occurred sometime prior to 2 p.m. Bolt, 48, of Hillsville, was driving a 2003 Chevy Tahoe when she lost control of the vehicle about two-tenths of a mile south of Hanging Tree Road. “She was on her way to the scene of another accident. She said was probably going a little too fast, but was trying to drive as quickly and safely as she could,” Phillips said. “She ran off the right side of the road, came back over and hit the edge of the left shoulder and she lost control, clipped a mailbox and rolled over a bank several times.” Bolt was transported by ambulance to Twin County Regional Hospital, but her daughter, Aleighthia Bolt, 29, was thrown from the vehicle and was airlifted to Winston-Salem, N.C. Phillips said Aleighthia Bolt was in a lot of pain at the scene, but he did not believe her injuries would be life threatening. Phillips said charges would probably not be issued in the accident.
