Charges pending in Wednesday's fatal crash
According to the Virginia State Police, a 2001 BMW was traveling at excessive speed Wednesday when it crossed the center line and hit two other vehicles in the intersection of Commonwealth Boulevard and Virginia Avenue. The other two vehicles, a 2006 Ford Econoline Van and a 2013 Nissan Altima, were both making a left turn onto Commonwealth.

Christopher James of Roanoke died Thursday at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital. He was 25.
