Erin Kaplan, 39, killed in collision involving food truck at Evergreen Miss Road and Watson Road in Loudoun County, Virginia

A former school bus that was converted into a food truck called Dane's Great American Hamburger was eastbound on Watson Road when it struck an Audi traveling north on Evergreen Mills Road about 4:50 p.m.

Two weeks after a fatal crash at a dangerous intersection near Leesburg, Virginia, short-term safety improvements are underway as transportation, government and neighborhood groups seek a permanent solution.   

Tony Steven Dane was denied bail at a hearing Wednesday. He is being held on charges of involuntary manslaughter, reckless driving, failing to have insurance, failing to have an operator's license and failure to have the vehicle inspected.   

The jury recommended sentencing him to almost 12 years in prison and fining him $3,500. Loudoun County Circuit Court Judge Benjamin Kendrick will make the final decision at a formal sentencing.

Virginia’s Court of Appeals has ruled the conviction and sentence will stand for food truck driver Tony Dane, whose poorly maintained brakes failed, causing the crash that killed a Loudon County, Virginia, woman and seriously injured her three children and mother.
