Woman Fatally Struck by VRE Train Near Burke Centre

A woman was fatally struck by a VRE train near Burke Centre in Burke, Va., Wednesday morning, according to a service alert from VRE.

Commuters on VRE should expect crowding on their afternoon and evening trains on the Manassas line as there will be fewer rail cars.

A VRE train struck and killed a woman Wednesday morning near Burke, in Fairfax County, on the rail service’s Manassas line.

A spokesman for the train service, said “no one could tell at this time if it was intentional or accidental” that the person was on the tracks. The person has not been identified, pending notification of relatives.

Train 330 has been canceled and riders on train 332 should expect a “long wait,” VRE officials said in an alert to its passengers.

VRE encouraged riders to find other means of transportation.

Officials did not release information about the condition of the person who was struck.
