3 Injured in Crash near Dayton

Investigators say a 50-year-old Shelton man was under the influence when he crashed into an oncoming car, injuring himself and two others Wednesday.

Three people were injured in a two-vehicle collision on Highland Road just south of Shelton Matlock Road Wednesday afternoon. Martin L Chappell, 50 of Shelton, was northbound on Highland Road in a 1988 Subaru Station Wagon. About 4:25 PM, the Subaru crossed the center line into the southbound lane of Highland Road and struck a northbound 1997 Chevrolet Tahoe as the SUV tried to avoid a collision by pulling to the left. The front passenger side of the station wagon struck the front of the Tahoe. Chappell and his passenger, Scott T. Jeffries, 49 to Shelton, airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. The driver of the Chevrolet, Daryl L. Horne, 18 of Olympia, was also injured but not transported. The trooper report indicates the cause of the collision was improper lane travel and crossing the center line by Chappell. The report also states that drugs or alcohol were involved and Chappell faces charges of vehicular assault. The things that you need to know about an accident with a drunk driver Drunk-driving crashes are complicated because of the many parties potentially involved, including the drunk driver, the bar or tavern where they got drunk, the party host who gave alcohol to a minor, and the parole officer tasked with supervising repeat offenders.
