Newport Highway crash kills one near Chattaroy

A preliminary investigation of a fatal crash Saturday evening shows a blue car was headed southbound on Newport highway and ended up in the northbound lane. A Suburban headed northbound swerved to avoid the car, but the car hit the back end of the Suburban and spun out of control. Washington State Patrol says one person has died after a possible head on crash on Newport Highway and Findley Road, three miles north of Chattaroy. The blue car then hit a silver car head on. The driver of the blue car died from  her injuries.

Washington State Patrol reports 44-year-old Mary K Juhnke of Newport was killed when she crossed over into the wrong lane on Newport Highway around milepost 307, about 13 miles north of Spokane.
