Dump trucks collide in Mattawa, 2 killed

Deputies said the truck driven by 53-year-old Bruce Patnode of Yakima crossed the center-line of Road O SW and crashed into the oncoming dump truck driven by 45-year-old Dale Peters of Selah. Both men were ejected from their trucks and died at the scene according to deputies.

Authorities said two dump truck drivers died in a head-on collision Wednesday morning near Mattawa in Grant County. The Grant County Sheriff’s Office asked drivers to avoid the area near Road O SW and Road 27 SW where the two trucks collided head-on and caught fire. Deputies said the truck driven by 53-year-old Bruce Patnode of Yakima crossed the center-line of Road O SW and crashed into the oncoming dump truck driven by 45-year-old Dale Peters of Selah. Both men were ejected from their trucks and died at the scene according to deputies. Authorities said Patnode's vehicle was loaded with gravel and Peters' was towing a dump trailer at the time of the crash. The Grant County Sheriff's Office Motor Traffic Unit launched an investigation.
