Gravel was trapped in the Jeep. Deputies found no signs of life and the Walworth County Coroner's Office pronounced him dead at 11:53 p.m. when he was extricated from the vehicle.
A 67-year-old man was found dead at the scene of a rollover crash Friday night. The Walworth County Sheriff's Office said deputies responded to a report of a single-vehicle accident at 10:53 p.m. on Highway 14 at Christie Road in the town of Darien. The driver and only occupant, Norbert J. Gravel Jr., of Crystal Lake, Illinois, was deceased, according to the report. Gravel was driving south on Highway 14 in his 2008 Jeep Patriot when he traveled left of center, crossing the center line. He entered northbound lanes, then the ditch and overturned. There were no indications that the vehicle braked or evasive driving maneuvers prior to the crash, authorities said. Gravel was trapped in the Jeep. Deputies found no signs of life and the Walworth County Coroner's Office pronounced him dead at 11:53 p.m. when he was extricated from the vehicle. An autopsy is scheduled Sunday to determine the cause of death. The sheriff's office said investigators did not know what caused Gravel to travel left of the center line prior to the crash.
