Tino Cachey, 53, Ute Cachey, 52, and Erik Brecht, 37, dead, two seriously injured when pickup truck allegedly driven by Manuel Moreno Defuentes, 61, strikes motorcycles on US 14/16/20 in Wapiti, Wyoming
All three fatalities were on motorcycles, but it is unknown if they were drivers or passengers. A total of nine people were on motorcycles, one occupant was in the pickup. The pickup crossed the center line, contacting two motorcycles head-on and sideswiping two others. Another motorcycle struck the right side of the pickup.
Wyoming Highway Patrol Trooper Blain Mollett says the truck crossed the center line of U.S. Highway 14-16-20 (Northfork HWY) and crashed into the motorcyclists just east of the Shoshone National Forest boundary Thursday afternoon. The truck sideswiped two motorcycles, injuring those riders. It then crashed head-on into three more motorcycles.
Three motorcyclists from Germany were killed when their group was hit by a pickup truck in Wyoming on Thursday.
The group of motorcyclists were tourists on a cross-country trip, according to Big Horn Radio Network.
Following the investigation of the crash on US Highway 14/16/20 that resulted in three deaths, 61-year-old Manuel Moreno Defuentes was arrested by the Wyoming Highway Patrol.
Tino Cachey (53 year old male), Ute Cachey (52 year old female) and Erik Brecht (37 year old male) have been identified as the fatalities from this crash. They are German national residents. All three sustained fatal injuries on scene.
"The fact that three people are dead and three remain in the hospital, the state believes that there is a danger to the community" with no apparent explanation, Skoric said, also noting Defuentes' lack of ties to the area.
Waters echoed Skoric's concerns, saying he really had "no hesitation" about setting bond at $25,000 on the "very serious charge."
