Mass. trucker struck, killed in Vt. amid snowstorm.

A Massachusetts tractor-trailer driver who crashed on a Vermont highway during a snowstorm and then stepped out into the roadway has been hit by another vehicle and killed.

Vermont state police say 45-year-old Lee, Mass., resident Robert Trombley was traveling on Interstate 91 in Fairlee on Friday morning when his tractor-trailer slid and hit a guardrail. Police say the tractor-trailer was stopped in the middle of the interstate, blocking both lanes.

Police say Trombley got out and was standing in the travel portion of the interstate when he was hit by an oncoming vehicle during whiteout conditions.

A second vehicle hit the back of the tractor-trailer.

Trombley was taken to Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, N.H., where he was pronounced dead.
