The single-vehicle accident happened just after 9 p.m. on Titus Creek Road at the intersection of Smiths Neck Road, where the driver of a 1999 Dodge Durango lost control and struck a tree, according to Virginia State Police spokeswoman.

The driver of the vehicle, 22-year-old Shaquan Hall, along with a 17-year-old boy who was a passenger, ran away from the crash and were found several blocks away, police said.

Hall was airlifted to Norfolk Sentara General Hospital with severe injuries, and the teen, who was also injured, was released to a parent, police said.

State police said speed was a factor in the accident, and Hall, of the 200 block of Salter Court in Smithfield, is also wanted by the Isle of Wight Sheriff’s Office for failure to appear.
