One person is dead and eight others were injured in a two-vehicle wreck in Sandbridge Wednesday evening.

Police say the accident occurred when the Nissan veered off the roadway to the right. Bayot attempted to overcorrect to the left and traveled into the path of an oncoming Toyota Tacoma pickup truck.

Two children have died after a crash along a Virginia Beach roadway Wednesday night.

The Virginia Beach Police Department said the two-vehicle crash happened just before 7 p.m. in the 500 block of Sandbridge Road.

According to a MPO spokesperson, two children have died as a result of the crash. Police said a 2002 Nissan was carrying seven people when it veered off the roadway. When it came back on the road, the driver over-corrected and the vehicle was t-boned by a 2003 Toyota Tacoma pickup truck.

The Nissan was pushed into a southbound ditch and ejected one of the passengers. One child died at the scene while another was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Four children and one adult remain in critical condition at this time. Cason said there were two people in the pickup truck at the time of the crash. One is in stable condition while the other suffered minor injuries.

A Sentara spokesman stated that five patients under the age of 16 were transported from the crash to Sentara Virginia Beach General Hospital. One of the five was then taken to the Children’s Hospital of the King’s Daughters.

Three adults were transported from the crash to Sentara Princess Anne Hospital, while two were later transferred to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital, Gauding said.

Thursday morning, Gauding said there were no patients remaining at Sentara Virginia Beach General Hospital. He was unable to release information about the conditions of the four patients still at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital.

Traffic was redirected near Sandbridge Realty to Dam Neck Naval Base for some time as crews worked the scene.
