A 15-year-old driver speeding faster than 100 mph before crashing into a Spokane Valley power pole Friday night was taking a couple of intoxicated friends to get tacos, according to police reports. Investigators want blood samples from the unlicensed driver. A 14-year-old passenger in the back seat who suffered a broken foot in the crash along the 3700 block of North Harvard Road in the Otis Orchards area said he saw the speedometer top 120 mph. A 17-year-old boy in the front seat remained in critical condition at a hospital Monday. The 15-year-old driver injured his head and went to a hospital. The driver had texted his two passengers earlier Friday night saying he wanted to go get some fast food, according to records. The 14-year-old told investigators he and the other passenger had been drinking and smoking marijuana. They walked to the driver’s house and then headed for a nearby Taco Bell. As they drove back, the 14-year-old asked the driver to slow down as they neared a railroad crossing, according to reports. The driver lost control of the 1998 Toyota Camry and slammed into the power pole. The 14-year-old passenger reported he had not seen the driver drinking or smoking that night, though they had done that together in the past.
