Details on the collision are limited, but so far it has been reported that a Chevrolet Malibu containing a man and a woman was first hit by a westbound train on the tracks that cross Route 83, before being hit yet again by an eastbound train. Driver Jawad Al-Nimer slowed down but went through the crossing despite the gates being down, lights flashing, and as a train was approaching. According to a witness, Al-Nimer swerved but the Malibu was struck by the train, then struck again by another, eastbound train. Both the driver and his passenger, Mufideh Al-Nimer, 78, were killed.

A Columbia Station couple died about 5:45 p.m. Sunday when the motorcycle they were riding struck a vehicle on Grafton Road. The crash occurred at a sharp curve in front of 36781 Grafton Road about a half-mile north of Mennell Road. The motorcyclist, Robert Willis, was southbound when he rode left of center and collided with the front driver’s side of a northbound Chevrolet Equinox with three people inside, said the Ohio Highway Patrol’s Elyria post. Police said what caused Willis to collide with the Equinox remains under investigation, but accidents frequently occur in the area.
