A 31-year-old man died when the car he was riding in collided with a pole on Eastern Avenue south of Harris Avenue Sunday morning.
According to Las Vegas police, the driver of a 2002 Chevy Tahoe southbound on Eastern Avenue was speeding and failed to maintain the lane, crashing head-on with a wooden power pole about 1:30 a.m.
The passenger was pronounced dead on the scene, police said.
The 25-year-old driver, Guadalupe Buenrostro, who was ejected from the vehicle, was taken to University Medical Center with critical injuries.
A North Las Vegas man who died after losing control of his van Saturday has been identified by the Clark County coroner’s office.
Juan Carlos Gil, 49, died when his 2001 Chevy Astro Van crashed into a concrete pillar by the Woodlawn Cemetery at 1500 Las Vegas Blvd. North Saturday afternoon.
Las Vegas police said Gil may have been suffering from a medical condition prior to the incident, so he has not been listed yet as a traffic fatality.

The motorcyclist killed in a collision in the northwest valley Thursday has been identified by the Clark County coroner’s office as Mark Erik Walwyn, of North Las Vegas.
Malwyn was riding his motorcycle fast in the left travel lane of Craig Road near Jadestone Avenue when he collided with a 2008 Honda Accord making a left turn in front of him just before 2 p.m., according to Las Vegas police.
The 43-year-old was thrown from his motorcycle and slid to a stop several hundred feet from the crash site, police said.
One person is dead after a van and a Jeep SUV collided near Blue Diamond Road and El Capitan Way Saturday morning.
A van was traveling north on state Route 160 around 8:50 a.m. when its driver turned left into the path of a Jeep that was traveling south, said a Nevada Highway Patrol spokesman.
A female passenger in the Jeep died at the scene, Elliott said.
The driver of the Jeep and the other passenger were taken to University Medical Center in critical condition.
The female driver of the van was uninjured, Elliott said.
Police are investigating the death of a bicyclist that was hit by a SUV on Eastern Avenue, near Sunset Road Saturday night.
The Clark County coroner’s office has identified the bicyclist as 19-year-old Kenn Merlos-Salcido of Las Vegas.
Just before 7 p.m., Merlos-Salcido was riding a bicycle, turned onto Eastern from Sunset and was struck by a 2013 Jeep Wrangler. Witness statements obtained by police indicate the SUV was headed south on Eastern in the left travel lane and struck him as it entered the intersection.
