Two men were killed while changing a tire Wednesday morning at mile marker 72 on westbound Interstate 70 in Garfield County near Parachute. A 2002 Ford F250 pick-up pulling a cattle hauler was on the right shoulder of the highway due to a flat tire. Another vehicle with David Moore Jr.,19, of Clifton and Timothy Randall, 30, of Grand Junction stopped to assist, and the men were on the left side of the trailer changing the tire when they were struck by a box truck. Both men died at the scene of the crash. The truck driver, Derek Thompson, 30, of Grand Junction was not hurt.

The Missouri Highway Patrol said a semi was going eastbound when it crossed into the westbound lanes and cut a car in half, killing Lynn Hebenheimer. Authorities said the collision caused a chain reaction involving three other semis and eight other vehicles. Authorities said eight people suffered serious injuries.  All eight are expected to survive, police said.
