Cary Neal Rogers, a UPS semi-truck driver, was outside of his truck that was parked on the shoulder of the turnpike when a second semi driven by Scott Randall Sims was driving eastbound on the turnpike when for an unknown reason, it veered off the roadway and rear-ended the UPS semi.  Both Rogers and Sims were pronounced dead at the scene. Sims was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the wreck and was ejected from his vehicle.

Lt. Jeff Turner, Aurora police spokesman reported that "none of those people in the Tahoe were wearing their seat belts." The Tahoe's driver was ejected from the SUV as it rolled onto its roof. Two of the Tahoe passengers were taken to a local hospital for treatment. Everyone in the Expedition were wearing their seat belts, and woman in the front passenger seat and a child were taken to a hospital with minor injuries. The investigation is continuing. Several witnesses, including a man who barely avoided the crash, said the Tahoe had ran a red light.

Police say the crash is still under investigation, and the identity of the victim has not been made public.
