A deputy pilot with the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office has been suspended and an investigation is underway after a speeding Camaro barreled down a runway and crashed into airport antennas

A Hillsborough County volunteer deputy was with the pilot in the volunteer's car when it lost control on a Tampa Executive Airport runway and drove into the antennas of the Instrument Landing System on Saturday, according to a HCSO report.

The volunteer, William Nelson, was driving the car, his own personal 2013 Chevrolet Camaro.

Tampa Police are investigating a fatal traffic accident involving a pedestrian early Monday morning on North Dale Mabry Highway in Tampa.

The accident happened near West Cherry Street. Police said a pedestrian was hit and killed there. They have not released the pedestrian's name or what kind of vehicle was involved.

TPD officers continue to investigate.

Tampa Fire Rescue officials say two people were hurt in a two-car crash on Interstate 4 Thursday night. It happened near I-4 eastbound and North 22nd Street. Officials say one car, with a man and woman inside, was stopped on the side of the interstate with a flat tire. Investigators say a second car crashed in to the back of the stopped car, and one of the cars caught fire. Tampa Fire Rescue officials say one person in the stopped car was taken to Tampa General Hospital with serious injuries. The second person in that car was not hurt.

The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating another wrong-way crash on Interstate 275 in Tampa.

The crash that killed one person, identified as Chase Kaleb Leveille, 25, happened early Friday in the southbound lanes of I-275 near Bears Avenue.

Troopers say an older model Honda was going north in the southbound lanes when it crashed into an Enterprise rental truck. The driver of the car died in the collision.

The truck driver and his passenger escaped with minor injuries.

The interstate was closed in both directions for several hours.

A 19-year-old woman died Saturday from injuries sustained in a one-vehicle crash on Interstate 75 in Hillsborough County.

The incident occurred at approximately 1 p.m. in the northbound lanes just south of the State Road 60 exit.

According to a Florida Highway Patrol report Emaleigh Rivell was pronounced dead at the scene. A passenger in the vehicle, 21-year-old John Rowland Harper of Orlando, suffered minor injuries.

The Florida Highway Patrol has reopened all lanes of Interstate 75 at Gibsonton Drive following a fatal accident involving a car and an ABC Liquor semi truck. A FHP Sgt. says the semi and a BMW collided on the interstate around 2:30 a.m. in low visibility conditions. The car's driver skidded off the bridge and landed in water, about 20-feet below, in the Alafia River. The vehicle was pulled from the river around 4:30 a.m. with the driver still inside. Sgt. Gaskins says the driver of the BMW died at the scene. The driver of the semi was taken to Tampa General Hospital with minor injuries.

A motorcycle rider was killed when he ran a red light and slammed into a car on Dale Mabry Highway at Fletcher Avenue, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

The motorcycle rider was identified as Joel Baxter Cooper, 24, of Tampa. No injuries reported in the car.

A multi-vehicle crash on Interstate 275 in Hillsborough County claimed five lives early Sunday morning. The incident occurred just after 2 a.m. and closed the northbound lanes of the roadway for over five hours. According to a Florida Highway Patrol report a 2001 Ford Expedition triggered the tragedy by driving south in the northbound lanes. The Expedition struck a 2010 Hyundai head-on just north of the Busch Blvd. exit in the center travel lane. The SUV caught fire and was quickly engulfed in flames. The driver, later identified as Daniel Lee Morris 28, was pronounced dead at the scene.

A deadly accident shut down the southbound lanes on Interstate 75 near Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard in Hillsborough County late Tuesday evening. The roadway was closed early Wednesday morning for a clean up. It reopened around 6 a.m. A Hillsborough County Fire Rescue Public Information Officer says the accident involved at least six vehicles including a tractor trailer.

A 76-year-old Tampa woman died Saturday from injuries sustained in a one-vehicle crash on Interstate 75.

Gloria Jean Portis was pronounced dead at the scene. She was a backseat passenger in the 1999 Pontiac Grand AM driven by 20-year-old Kalen Darell Guest of Tampa.

According to a Florida Highway Patrol report Guest was heading north approaching the Fowler Ave. overpass when for unknown reasons the vehicle left the roadway. The car traveled into the center median where the left side of the vehicle collided with the guardrail.
