The deputy John Swearengin struck and killed Hiler and Jolley as they pushed a motorcycle across Norris Road. Swearengin was traveling at more than 80 mph in a 45-mph zone. He briefly took his eyes off the road just before the crash as he looked down to grab his radio. When he looked up the motorcycle was right in front of him.
