A 58-year old woman pleaded not guilty Thursday afternoon in San Francisco Superior Court to felony gross vehicular manslaughter and reckless driving charges in connection with a crash that killed a 16-year-old boy in September.

Jennie Zhu, a San Francisco resident, was arraigned Thursday afternoon on the manslaughter charge and two felony counts of reckless driving causing injury after hitting a car on Pine and Gough streets on the morning of Sept. 27.

Two lanes of a freeway in Corona were shut down on Thursday after a tour bus returning from a casino trip during a rain storm crashed, injuring 22 passengers, the CHP said.

The passengers were quickly taken to hospitals after the crash. Most suffered minor injuries, fire officials said. All of the passengers were adults.

The crash was reported at 2:43 p.m. in the northbound lanes of the Ontario (15) Freeway at Magnolia Avenue, officials said.

The bus was returning from Pala Casino in San Diego, headed back to Westminster, Corona Fire Chief John Medina said.

Riverside County officials say 14 people were hospitalized after a bus hydroplaned and barreled into oncoming traffic in the Homeland area Thursday. Officials say the Riverside Transit Agency bus was traveling westbound on Highway 74 near Perris at speeds of 45 mph when it began to hydroplane just before 9 a.m. The bus reportedly veered into oncoming traffic, colliding with a Pontiac sedan. Four vehicles were involved in the crash, including a tow truck. Fourteen people were transported to local hospitals with injuries ranging from minor to moderate.

One adult and one student suffered minor injuries when a station wagon and school bus were involved in a collision Thursday in the west San Fernando Valley. The crash was reported about 7:48 a.m. in the 7000 block of Corbin Avenue, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department. The bus was carrying about a dozen students, and all had exited the vehicle after the wreck, officials said. Three patients were assessed for injury, officials said. A student and an adult attendant were taken to a hospital with very minor injuries, officials said.

A school bus with eight children on board was involved in a crash with two other cars in Livermore this morning, a California Highway Patrol officer said. The crash was reported shortly before 7:55 a.m. near Murrieta and Stanley boulevards. At least one person suffered minor injuries in the crash, CHP Officer Ron Simmons said. He did not know if the injury was to someone on the bus or in one of the other cars. CHP officers remained at the scene Thursday morning, Simmons said. The highway patrol investigates all collisions in the state involving school buses.

A speeding motorist crashed head-on into an on-duty sheriff's deputy on a rain-slicked Alpine road early Thursday, sending the lawman to the hospital with minor injuries, authorities said. The two-car crash on the 3900 block of Willows Road near Viejas Casino & Resort occurred about 3:20 a.m., according to a San Diego County sheriff's Lt. The deputy was traveling westbound when the eastbound motorist lost control of his speeding vehicle and crossed over a center divider, striking the deputy's car head-on.

A person was killed Wednesday evening when a Toyota Corolla hit the center divide on northbound Interstate 280 in Daly City, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The accident, which involved only the Corolla, occurred about 4:45 p.m. on I-280 near the Westlake Avenue off-ramp.

The left three lanes of northbound I-280 were blocked for about two-and-a-half hours after the crash. They opened about 7:30 p.m., according to the CHP.

A National City police officer was injured overnight while attempting to rescue an unconscious driver from a crash. The National City Police Department said the incident occurred at about 12 a.m. on the 1300 block of South Harbison Avenue in National City. Investigators said a woman was driving on the roadway when she lost control and slammed her white sedan into a pole. Officers said the woman tried to call a friend for help but passed out in her seat while the car filled with smoke.

A bicyclist who was struck by a big-rig truck and killed in West Oakland has been identified as a 62-year-old El Cerrito woman, the Alameda County Coroner's office said Thursday.

Susan Watson was riding her bicycle at Fifth and Market streets at about 6:15 p.m. Dec, 17 when the truck hit her, police said.

The truck driver has been cooperating with the investigation, according to authorities.

A female bicyclist was struck and killed in West Oakland on Tuesday evening, police said.

The woman was riding her bike at Fifth and Market streets about 6:15 p.m. when a big-rig truck hit her, according to authorities.

No other information was immediately available.
