CHURCH HILL — A Church Hill woman was killed Sunday evening when a pickup struck the passenger side of the vehicle in which she was riding as it crossed Highway 11-W at the Goshen Valley Road intersection.
The driver of the pickup, William H. Edens, 83, of Surgoinsville, reportedly told the Tennessee Highway Patrol that his light was yellow as he crossed the intersection.
Two witnesses reportedly said that the Mazda carrying the victim had the green light when it crossed the highway.
A single-vehicle crash on Sunday in Chilton County claimed the life of a Prattville teenager.
Alabama State Troopers say 18-year-old Christy Christian was killed when the 2005 Nissan Altima she was driving, left the roadway and overturned. The accident occurred at 3:13 a.m. on Interstate 65 southbound at mile marker 214, which is two miles north of Clanton.
A 17-year-old high school senior was killed after her Jeep flipped after going off the side of the road in Monroe.
According to the North Carolina Highway Patrol, 17-year-old Samantha Ann Windham was killed in a crash along the 3000-block of Poplin Road just after 9:30 p.m. Sunday night.
Troopers say the vehicle went off the side of the road, hit a culvert and flipped over. Windham was partially ejected from the vehicle.
She was not wearing a seatbelt, according to troopers.
Investigators say Windham has just left from a Monroe pizza restaurant.
A Mountain View woman was killed Sunday afternoon when her vehicle ran off the road and hit a tree in Stone County, authorities said.
Karen R. Morris, 60, was driving a 2005 Chevrolet south on Arkansas 9 about 7 miles south of Mountain View when the vehicle veered off the highway in a curve and hit the tree, according to an Arkansas State Police report. It happened at 2:50 p.m.
Morris died from unspecified injuries.
Conditions at the time were described as clear and dry.
A Vancouver woman died Sunday afternoon in a Washougal crash that's being investigated as a possible vehicular homicide. The crash happened around 1 p.m. Sunday. Shauna Medlin, 41, was a passenger in a 2007 Dodge pickup driven by James Benton, 66, of Washougal. According to the Skamania County Sheriff's Office, the pickup left Washougal River Road and rolled over just east of North Fork Road in rural western Skamania County, south of a Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife fish hatchery. Emergency responders pronounced Medlin dead at the scene.
NICKELSVILLE — Four people were injured, including one critically, in a head-on collision that occurred Sunday night in Scott County.
The accident took place just after 7 p.m. east of Nickelsville on the 14000 block of Route 71, just before the turn off to Long Hollow Road.
According to Virginia State Police, a Dodge Durango was traveling northbound towards Russell County on Route 71 when it crossed over the centerline and collided head on with a Mazda 3 sedan traveling southbound.
The woman killed in a hit-and-run Saturday on the East Side has been identified as Lydia Mendoza, 52.
Police were called after 9:30 p.m. to the 7100 block of FM 78, near Lakeview Drive, to find Mendoza lying unconscious on the right shoulder next to the road.
Shattered glass and debris were found nearby. Police said Monday they did not know who hit Mendoza, or what vehicle the person was driving.
Mendoza died at the scene of the crash.
