According to the Florida Highway Patrol, at about 11:53 p.m. Wednesday, 18-year-old Julie Castor of Davie was driving a 2006 Toyota Corolla westbound on I-595 just east of University Drive when she lost control of her car after being cut off by another vehicle that may have been racing on the roadway. The Toyota veered left, struck a concrete barrier, and then went across the westbound lanes before hitting another concrete wall. Castor exited her car and was standing next to it when she was struck by a 1997 Toyota Avalon. The teenager was pronounced dead at the scene.
