A 22-year-old man was killed when a car plunged into a canal off the Hudson River in Jersey City early Wednesday, police say. Marc Puich was pulled out of the Morris Canal about two hours after he drove off a parking lot on Liberty View Drive, crashed through a steel barrier and then dropped into the waterway. He was unresponsive when he was pulled from the water at around 3:30 a.m. and was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Emergency workers in La Crosse have recovered a body from a car that broke through the ice on a creek. The driver was the only person in the car. A bus driver called dispatchers Wednesday about 1:30 a.m. when he noticed tire tracks leaving the street and heading over a bank toward Swift Creek. The vehicle plunged down a 40-foot embankment but the ice didn't immediately break. The vehicle headed a little south on the ice before breaking through into the water. Rescue divers found the vehicle submerged in 6 to 8 feet of water. An autopsy is scheduled for Thursday in Madison.

According to Coppell Police, a Hurst resident crashed into a median, and ended up in Grapevine Creek. 61 year old, Jay T. Clement, died in the single car crash. He was traveling eastbound on I-635, when his Toyota Highlander left the roadway and continued in the median, where it finally came to a stop in the creek. The cause of the crash is under investigation.

John Vausha, 62, was driving on Ind. 64 about 6:45 p.m. when a witness saw his vehicle leave the road. The vehicle traveled 500 feet before landing in a pond. Officials are unsure what caused Vausha to drive off the road. Crawford County firefighters pulled Vausha from his car, but the man was unresponsive. Vausha was flown to Harrison County Hospital in Corydon, where he was pronounced dead.

A 19-year-old driver had to be rescued after his car went off a cliff and plunged into the ocean in Palos Verdes. The incident happened around 2 a.m. Friday on the 1300 block of Paseo del Mar. Responding officers said they could hear someone calling for help, so rescue crews from the fire department were called to the scene. The 19-year-old male victim was pulled from the car and airlifed to a hospital in Torrance with serious injuries.

A driver was arrested Thursday night for allegedly slamming into a car, sending it and four passengers plunging into a flood control channel, then driving away from the crash, authorities said. The hit-and-run collision happened about 7:40 p.m. near Parthenia Street and Noble Avenue in North Hills, according to a watch commander with the Los Angeles Police Department Valley Traffic Division.

A grandson of retired Florida State University football coach Bobby Bowden was among two young men killed Thursday in a traffic crash in Polk County, the Sheriff's Office said. Investigators said the driver, Rafael Fernandes De Aguiar Valim, 25, and passenger Taylor Jeffrey Bowden, 23, both of Winter Haven, and Robert Lewis Edwards, 22, of Boca Raton were at a bar in Winter Haven on Christmas night prior to the 2 a.m. crash in Winter Haven. Edwards, the back-seat passenger, survived the crash into a ditch or creek filled with 5 feet of water.

Police say a Clayton man was drunk and speeding when he lost control of his car and crashed into a retention pond in New Castle, Delaware. The crash occurred shortly before 6 p.m. Friday. New Castle County police say the driver, 41-year-old Robert Blisard, hit the rear bumper of another vehicle, causing him to lose control of his car and crash into the pond located off the east bound lanes of Commons Boulevard near Reads Way. The driver of the other vehicle and a passenger in Blisard’s car were treated for minor injuries.

A Winter Haven pilot landed his plane in a lake after his engine failed. Eric McCoy, 48, was flying his 1946 North American Navion north from Winter Haven airport around noon when the engine began misfiring a sputtering. Polk deputies say McCoy sent out a "may day" call to the Bartow Municipal Airport tower. With limited options, McCoy retracted his landing gear and made a hard landing in Lake Hancock. The area where he landed was about 4 feet deep.

A 2-month-old child and a pair of adults dodged death when a passing driver clipped their car on an icy road near Klamath Falls on Wednesday and sent both vehicles flying into an irrigation canal, police said. Howard Kingman, of Sisters, was driving a Chevrolet Tahoe north on U.S. 97 around 1:05 p.m. when he tried to pass a Toyota Prius near milepost 264, Oregon State Police said. The 70-year-old driver lost control on the icy roadway and struck the Prius, which carried Robert Burton, 56, Bree Burton, 20, and her infant son, police said.
