The accident occurred in the backyard of a home near Higley and Queen Creek roads around 9:30 a.m. Sunday in Gilbert. Authorities say a 14-year-old girl was swinging on a large wooden rope swing near the corner of the pool deck when the swing broke, knocking the teen into the pool. As she fell, she accidentally knocked a 7-year-old girl into the pool with her. Both girls sustained serious head injuries.

The woman who crashed her van into a Maricopa lake has died from her injuries. Maricopa Police said 46-year-old Eileen Brown passed away Monday evening. Emergency responders were called to Honeycutt Road and Rancho Mirage Boulevard in Maricopa Monday after a Chevy Venture van was discovered underneath the water in a lake. One occupant, Eileen Brown, 46, died from her injuries Monday evening, and another woman, Bernadette Lopez, 59, is in the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. It's not clear at this time how the van wound up in the water.
