On Monday, Stephen McGouldrick, 55, slid on ice and lost control of his SUV on an icy road and rolled the vehicle down an embankment into 2 1/2 feet of water, landing upside-down and sumberging a 3-month-old infant girl in the back seat. Passerby Leo Moody, of Kingman, crawled into the SUV and freed the baby by using a knife to cut the straps of her car seat. The baby girl was not breathing and unresponsive when she was pulled free, and another passer-by, Wade Shorey, initiated CPR and successfully resuscitated her.

Three people, including a 6-year-old boy, escaped serious injury when the all-terrain vehicle they were on broke through the ice of China Lake. The operator of the ATV, Lucas Cole of Benton, was trapped in the water for about five minutes and suffered hypothermia and frostbite. The 25-year-old Cole stated that he went under the water three times before his friend, Donald Cowles, pulled him free. Cowles threw his 6-year-old nephew to safety first. All three were treated at the hospital.
