Darrell Thomas was speeding along La. 308 when authorities tried to stop him. He responded by speeding away, leading police on a chase that exceed 100 mph at times. Thomas lost control of his vehicle, hit a culvert, went airborne, then crashed into a utility pole. He was taken to a local hospital where he died from his injuries. Thomas was not wearing his seat belt at the time of the crash. No one else was in the vehicle.

Terence Deon Welch was fleeing from a state trooper that attempted to stop him for a traffic violation when he lost control of his vehicle and crashed into a 2006 Ford F-150. Welch was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected, causing him to sustain serious injuries. He was taken to UAB Hospital where he was pronounced dead. The driver of the Ford did not sustain any injuries.

Lashawnna G. Taylor, 33, was spotted by police driving on Copley Road in Akron. She sped away, blowing through several stop signs and red lights, and police eventually called off the chase. A second officer attempted to pull Taylor over a short time later, and again Taylor fled, this time crashing into a snow bank on West Wilbeth Road near 26th Street S.W., causing her SUV to flip. Five children were in the car, including a 2-year-old who was ejected. The children range in age from 2 to 11 years old.
