A 16-year-old was driving north on on Mechanic Street when they struck a utility pole. The impact of the crash caused the power lines to come down, starting a brush fire and causing power outages in parts of Putnam and Thompson. Firefighters were able to contain the brush fire, and it took utility crews several hours to repair the pole. The driver was taken to Day Kimball Hospital with minor injuries.

Sasser was flying the plane at a low altitude when the plane clipped some trees and power lines and crashed, bursting into flames. Firefighters first got the call as a brush fire. It wasn't until helicopters flew in to assess the size of the fire that they discovered the single engine plane crashed.

The National Weather Service says the bad weather brought down a power line in Kailua. It happened around 9:30 Sunday morning and a young man was injured. The 22-year-old saw his van on fire and tried to put the fire out. That's when trouble began. The quiet of a Sunday morning on Ohana Avenue was shattered when residents heard a loud explosion. A power line split both ends of the live wire which caused considerable damage. Fortunately, he was not. The young man was taken to Castle Medical Center in critical condition and was later transferred to Queen's.
