A 73-year-old Smithfield man was killed in a snowmobile crash in the Gibson Lakes area on Saturday afternoon. Dennis R. Thompson had climbed a steep hill on his snowmobile. It seems the snowmobile went off a steep drop-off, crashed into trees and came to rest approximately 60 feet below the ridge.

Authorities in southeast Idaho are investigating a fatal snowmobile accident over the weekend that claimed the life of a 21-year-old Utah woman who was an up-and-coming racer on the regional snowmobiling circuit. The Franklin County Sheriff said Monday that Raysha Nielsen of Logan was a passenger on a snowmobile that struck a tree Saturday afternoon in the Franklin Basin area east of Franklin. No name or other information has been released in regard to the driver of the snowmobile. The Salt Lake Tribune reports Nielsen was the daughter of Rich Gladfelder, owner of Logan's Renegade Sports.

A Utah man is dead following an avalanche in San Pete County Sunday. Officials say four highly experienced back country snowmobilers were riding near Huntington Reservoir. The four were said to be trained in avalanche rescue and had beacons, probes, shovels, and Spot GPS at the time of the accident. When the avalanche occurred, the others in the party reached the area and located their friend who was buried 6 to 8-feet under the surface and began CPR. They also sent a message with the Spot GPS which sends GPS coordinates with a request for help.

The Wasatch County Sheriff’s Office is reporting that a 10-year-old boy died Friday in a snowmobile crash just east of Woodland in Wasatch County, near Highway 35. Officials say the 10-year-old was driving the snowmobile with his father and lost control of snowmobile causing it to roll. The boy suffered fatal injuries while the father sustained only minor injuries. Police say both of them were wearing helmets.

The Weber County Sheriff's Office is reporting that an adult male was killed Sunday afternoon in a snowmobile accident. Authorities say the snowmobile rider died near the Monte Cristo area of Weber County. Details surrounding the man's death are not yet known at this time.
