New York, NYA 20-year-old woman had the right-of-way and was crossing West 57th Street at its intersection with Eighth Avenue when she was hit by a taxi driven by Babul Miah, 29. It occured at about 5:30 p.m., when Miah was attempting to turn right from Eighth unto 57th and failed to yield to the woman in the crosswalk. He ran over the pedestrian before crashing into some phone booths. The victim, who has yet to be identified, sustained life-threatening injuries in the accident. Miah will likely be charged for failing to yield.

New York, NYWinnifred Matthias, 77, of East Flatbush, died in Brooklyn Monday after being hit by a dump truck. The accident occured around 12:25 p.m. when Matthias was walking on the double yellow line on Flatbush Avenue, in the middle of the road, between Atlantic and 4th Avenues. The dump truck driver remained at the scene. Matthias aws taken to Brooklyn Hospital, where she died from her injuries.
