Dozens of people were allegedly spectating in an area of Los Angeles known for street racing, near Canoga Avenue and Plummer Street in the community of Chatsworth. A Ford Mustang driven by Henry Michael Gevorgyan, 21, that police say has been modified for racing purposes was racing through the area when Gevorgyan failed to properly negotaite a turn and struck some spectators that were on the side of the road.

Aldzhikyan was ejected from his vehicle after it left the road, struck a lamppost and then a business sign. The car did not have seatbelts. A teenage boy suspected of involvement in the crash was in custody today and facing homicide charges.

One man was killed and another is in serious condition after a hit-and-run driver struck them while they were crossing a North Hollywood street Wednesday night, police said. The two men were crossing the 7000 block of North Whitsett when they were struck by a black SUV around 8:30 p.m. Both were taken to the hospital. One of the victims died at the hospital. The other is in serious condition with non-life threatening injuries, police said. Police are looking for the male driver who fled the scene. The vehicle has been described as a large, black SUV, comparable in size to an Escalade.
