A 21-year-old San Carlos man died early Sunday in a car crash on Interstate 280 in Palo Alto, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Julian Ali Thomas was heading north on I-280 near Page Mill Road at about 4 a.m. when his car collided with another vehicle, killing him and sending another person to the hospital with minor injuries.
The cars were a four-door BMW and a four-door Nissan, but officers did not know which car Thomas was in or what caused the collision. The investigation is ongoing.
An intersection along San Francisco’s Embarcadero was reopened after a Muni light-rail train smashed into a big rig, sending four people to the hospital with minor injuries, according to police and fire personnel.
Police said the crash between the Muni F-line trolley and a big rig was reported around 12:45 p.m. on the Embarcadero near Bay Street.
Four people were sent to area hospitals to be treated for minor injuries suffered in the crash, which slowed traffic around the intersection for more than an hour, according to fire and police personnel.

Early this morning, a GMC SUV and Honda Civic collided on NB I-280. After the accident, a man in the GMC grabbed a duffel bag and tried to cross southbound lanes where he was fatally struck.
The driver of the Honda was transported to the hospital as a precaution.
A Novato woman was killed and a man was injured when they were struck and run over by a dump truck in a San Rafael crosswalk early Friday afternoon, police said.
At 12:17 p.m., the couple was walking west on the south side of Third Street and was crossing Hetherton Street in a crosswalk when a loaded dump truck traveling west on Third Street turned left onto Hetherton and struck them, a San Rafael police spokeswoman Margo said.
The woman, identified as 67-year-old Olga Rodriguez, died at the scene and the man was taken to Marin General Hospital with major injuries.
A 5-year-old boy was injured when a vehicle struck him in Pacifica on Friday afternoon, police said.
At about 12:30 p.m., officers responded to a report that a vehicle had struck a pedestrian in the 1100 block of Rosita Road.
Officers responded to the scene, located in a residential neighborhood, and discovered an injured 5-year-old boy in the roadway, police said.
The boy was transported to a nearby hospital with major injuries not considered life-threatening, according to police.
