A pedestrian died early Tuesday morning in a hit-and-run traffic wreck in west Houston.
The incident happened about 2 a.m. at 8500 Richmond near Dunvale, according to the Houston Police Department.
Police said the victim was crossing Richmond when a dark-colored or black sports utility vehicle traveling eastbound hit him. The man died at the scene.
Police said the driver of the SUV sped away.
No description of the driver or further details about the SUV were available.
A firefighter was fatally injured Monday night after either falling or being being knocked from an icy overpass by a vehicle in Southwest Dallas.
Dallas Fire-Rescue confirmed firefighter William Tanksley, a 14-year veteran of the department, died of his injuries. He leaves behind a wife and three children.
According to initial information, Tanksley was working at the scene of an accident at the intersection of Interstate 20 and Spur 408 when he tumbled to the pavement below. There were reports the firefighter may have been hit by a vehicle.
Authorities have identified a 14-year-old girl who was killed Monday night in a hit-and-run collision when she dashed in to a darkened, rain-slick roadway in northwest Harris County.
Nicole Ruekwe died in the incident that occurred about 6:50 p.m. in the 5500 block of Barker Cypress near River Sage, according to the Harris county Sheriff's Office.
Deputies said Ruekwe was trying to cross the street when a vehicle hit her. As she lay on the pavement, another vehicle may also have hit her.
Both drivers sped away.
3 people died in a crash involving a school bus in Live Oak County Thursday morning. According to officials with the Texas Department of Public Safety, a van crashed into a Three Rivers ISD school bus on Highway 72 just before 7 a.m. The three people killed were riding in the van, a DPS official said. Four other people inside the van were also injured. No children on board the bus were injured, although some kids were checked out at school or transported to a hospital by parents, according to DPS. A DPS official said driver fatigue may be to blame in the crash.
A death investigation is underway after an accident on the Gulf Freeway.
Houston police said Channea Ou, 58, and his wife were driving south on the connecting ramp from the South Sam Houston Parkway to the southbound Gulf Freeway when he hit the guard rail just before 10 a.m. Sunday.
After the accident, police said Ou walked back along the path that his vehicle had taken and then returned to the vehicle where his wife was still sitting in the front passenger seat. He spoke to his wife, and then ran up the connected ramp about 400 feet and climbed onto the guard rail.
Police are investigating a fatal auto-pedestrian crash in southwest Houston.
It happened just before 10 a.m. Wednesday in the 9200 block of Bellaire Boulevard near Corporate Drive.
Officials said a person was crossing Bellaire when they were hit by a white pickup truck.
Houston police closed a portion of Bellaire to traffic while investigators are on scene.
Houston police say a woman driving an SUV slammed into a man crossing I-10 near John Ralston early Friday morning.
"She tried to avoid him but ended up hitting him on the front left of her vehicle," police stated.
Officials said around 2:30 a.m., the woman stopped a few miles away at the nearest exit and called 911 to report the crash.
Police are not sure why the man was crossing the freeway, but say the woman who crashed into him will not face charges.
"At this time we are checking her for any impairment but we don't believe she was impaired,".
