STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- An accident on the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway has caused traffic to back up on Wednesday morning onto the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge and the Staten Island Expressway heading eastbound.

The accident occurred at about 4:30 a.m., and though it has been cleared, traffic was still was backed up for miles at about 8 a.m. on the BQE.

Fire officials say one person was taken to a hospital in serious condition following the accident in the eastbound lanes of the BQE.

The 11-year-old Brooklyn boy who was hurt in a DWI accident has died, a prosecutor said Monday.

Little Dylan Perry succumbed to injuries suffered when his stepfather Anthony Pollydore, 65, crashed into a light post Sunday morning, authorities said.

Pollydore, dressed in a dapper all-white three-piece suit and matching loafers, said nothing when the death of his stepson was announced during his Brooklyn Criminal Court arraignment.

A 31-year-old man was decapitated by oncoming traffic as he tried to cross the Grand Central Parkway near LaGuardia Airport late Friday night, authorities said. Fidel Vidal Diaz, 31, of Flushing, Queens, had crossed the eastbound lane of the busy highway and was attempting to cross the westbound lane when he was slammed by 2005 Mustang and then a 2002 Volkswagen. Diaz was killed by the impact, authorities said. Police were not sure why Diaz was crossing the dangerous highway. The drivers of both vehicles remained at the scene and were not charged, police said.

Five people, including four NYPD auxiliary officers, were taken to the hospital following an accident in Queens Monday afternoon, police say. The four officers were in an auxiliary vehicle traveling west on 73rd Avenue when it crashed with a sedan going north on 172nd Street in Hillcrest, according to police. All were taken to Booth Memorial Hospital with minor injuries. It's not clear how the two vehicles crashed but police say no criminality is suspected. NYPD's auxiliary police volunteer in their local precincts and perform uniformed patrol in their communities.

Rescuers using spotlights and cadaver dogs searched for survivors into Thursday morning after a thunderous blast in East Harlem killed six people and leveled two apartment buildings.

At least four women and two men died in the Wednesday morning explosion and collapse of 1644 and 1646 Park Ave.

More than 50 people were injured during the uptown horror that erupted into flames, clouds of dust and smoke, and a desperate search among the rubble of the five-story buildings. Those who weren’t injured were traumatized nonetheless.

Police say a 64-year-old man is critically injured and in a medically induced coma after being hit by a car in Queens Friday night. The man was crossing the street on Northern Boulevard and 41st Avenue when a dark-colored Chevy Blazer hit him, police said. The driver fled west on Northern Boulevard after the accident, according to authorities. The man, who is in critical condition at Elmhurst General Hospital, has a head injury and a broken leg.

Two people have died and a third is in critical condition following a rollover crash in Bridgeport late Saturday night.

Police said 35-year-old Steven Mountjoy and 22-year-old Yasmin Pedroza were killed in the crash. Bryan Bruwor, 33, is in critical condition at Yale-New Haven Hospital and was in surgery after the accident. It's not clear who was driving the car.

A man was clinging to life and six others were hurt Saturday following a multiple car crash in Queens, officials said. Witnesses at the scene said the crash may have been sparked by a police pursuit, but cops could not confirm those claims late Saturday. The carnage began at about 5:30 p.m. when a Honda Civic blew a red light on 99th St. at 57th Ave. in Corona and struck two vehicles — including a Mitsubishi Montero containing five people — before striking two parked cars, officials said. Paramedics rushed seven people to area hospitals.

Two people were killed in a one-car accident on the Long Island Expressway in Queens early Tuesday. The crash happened just before 1 a.m. between the Utopia Parkway and the 164th Street exits in Fresh Meadows. Police say the driver was heading west in an Audi sedan when he lost control and hit a tree, killing himself and a passenger. They were pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities are investigating the cause, but one eyewitness says the driver was speeding. The identities of the deceased are being withheld pending family notification.

Police say a person was struck and killed by an MTA bus in Queens Monday evening, authorities say. The victim was struck by a bus on the Q53 line near the intersection of 74th Street and Roosevelt Avenue in Jackson Heights, FDNY EMS and MTA say. The victim has not been identified. It's not clear if slippery roads played a role in the accident. Eight inches of heavy, wet snow fell across New York City Monday.
