Lissa Kowalski, 49, of New London Road in Mystic, died after a westbound Jeep Grand Cherokee collided with the eastbound Toyota Prius she was driving on Route 6 near Parker Bridge Road. Kowalski was transported by ambulance to Windham Hospital, where she was pronounced deceased. The other driver, Kathleen W. Byrne, 61 of Hartford, was airlifted to Hartford Hospital with serious injuries. No charges have yet been filed.

A 27-year-old man was shot to death by a Yakima County sheriff’s deputy Wednesday afternoon following a high-speed chase that ended just west of the Yakima city limits. Shortly before 4:20 p.m., a deputy spotted a green Honda Civic driving east on U.S. Highway 12 that had been reported stolen. When the deputy attempted to pull over the car, it sped off, eventually reaching speeds of more than 100 mph. The Honda turned off the highway onto Ackley Road, and the car left the road, striking a fence.

The Butler County crash happened just before 3:30 p.m. on Highway 53 when a car driven by Chelsea M. Hill ran off the road, overcorrected, and then slid into the path of a car driven by Cheryl M. Bader. Hill was ejected from her vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene. Bader suffered minor injuries and was taken to Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center.

At about 11:45pm, a tanker truck with two separate gas tanks made a turn from Mason Street onto Turk Street. Strangley, a man was riding in-between the two gas tanks, and as the truck turned he fell off, was run over by the truck, and killed. The driver did not stop, but due to the manor in which the victim was riding on the truck, the driver likely didn't even know he was there.

Donna Brasher, 74, died on Thursday after suffering critical injuries in an accident on Wednesday. She passed away Thursday morning. Sgt. Steve Jarrett says the wreck occurred at 6:25 p.m. on U.S. Highway 11, four miles north of Springville. Check back for further information as it becomes available.

A third teenager has died from injuries sustained in a two-vehicle crash in central Illinois on November 5. 17-year-old Dana Janssen of Harvel died Saturday at a Springfield hospital. Janssen was the driver of one of the vehicles involved in the accident near Raymond. She overcorrected after leaving the roadway, which propelled her vehicle into the path of a van, which hit the car's passenger side. the collision killed 16-year-old Samantha DeLisle of Harvel. The backseat passenger, 17-year-old Jeffery Masters of Harvel, died at a hospital in Litchfield.

The two deputies were first helping a driver who's car was stopped in one of the moving lanes of I-45, and their patrol car was parked in a moving lane as well, blocking traffic. Right as the men were returning to their patrol car, it was struck by another car and both men were injured. Valenzuela has already been treated and released, but Layman sustained much more serious injuries and will likely be in the hospital for quite some time.

A sheriff's deputy in Middle Tennessee was killed in a high-speed crash while assisting another officer who was pursuing a fleeing suspect. The accident happened early Tuesday in Spring Hill. Deputy Darrell Perritt, 42, died after he lost control of his vehicle which then struck a tree. The suspect being pursued also crashed and was taken to a hospital for medical treatment. His condition is unknown at this time.

A father driving a pickup in North Carolina had a seizure behind the wheel, so his 13-year-old son steered the truck away from oncoming traffic. The truck ran off the road, striking a gas station pump. Good Samaritans came to the aid of the father and son, and the driver is in the hospital recovering.

Gunn High School student Cameron Lee, 16, died after he was hit by a train south of the California Avenue station about 1 a.m. in Palo Alto. The death appears to have been a suicide.
