Edgar Friederichs, 61, and Matthew Boutell, 21, killed in small-plane crash near Santa Paula, California
Two people were on board when the aircraft went down; both were pronounced dead at the scene, according to Ian McGregor, public affairs manager of the Federal Aviation Administration’s Pacific Division.
Their names, ages and genders have not been released.
The Ventura County Medical Examiner said Friederichs lived in Castaic while Boutell was from Thousand Oaks.
Friederichs was piloting a single-engine VariEze aircraft when it crashed in an orchard near the 1600 block of Aliso Canyon Road north of Foothill Road on Saturday afternoon.
Two witnesses on the ground said they heard the engine sputtering as the airplane dropped out of the sky, an investigator said.
