State Police said the 2003 Mercury was travelling in the northbound lane when it went off the road and hit a tree.
They said a 36-year-old man and his 23-year-old passenger were taken to Charlton Hospital, where they were pronounced dead.

Trooper said Joseph Burnham, 36, and Laurence Wheeler, 23, were traveling in a 2003 Mercury headed north on Route 24, south of Exit 8A, about 1:30 a.m. when for some reason the vehicle veered off the right side of the road and hit a tree.
