Two dead in crash of semis, van on I-70 near Utah-Colorado border

Utah Highway Patrol Sgt. Todd Royce said the tragic events began with the first semi overturning, coming to rest on its side blocking all eastbound lanes of the highway at mile marker 214.

Moments later, a Mercedes-Benz van plowed into and through the big rig's trailer. The driver got out and was standing next his vehicle when a second semi crashed into the wreckage, striking and killing the van's driver.

One of the people got out of the van after the collision. A second semitruck followed the same path as the van and crashed into it, killing the person outside, Royce said. This crash caused the second semitruck to jackknife, killing the driver inside.

Comments

There should be slower speed limits and more warnings of curves and dangerous conditions. Truck drivers have more dangers from wind and from non truck drivers trying to pass in dangerous situations. Driver license manuals should have a section about this and defensive driving for everyone .Though it will probably lessen the need for accident lawyers I'm sure they will find enough work anyways. Thank you.
