Police are investigating a crash in Independence that killed an 18-year old and injured five others, including three children.

Police are investigating a crash in Independence that killed an 18-year old and injured five others, including three children.

The collision happened about 4:55 p.m. on Thursday on Stryker Road. A Dodge Durango driven by Colleen Patrick of Salem was headed north when it crashed into the driver's side of a passenger car that pulled out from a parking lot near Stinson Street.

The driver in the passenger car, 18-year-old Jacqueline Hernandez-Romero of Independence, was killed at the scene. Hernandez-Romero's mother, Maria Del Rocio Romero Valtierra from Independence, was in the car along with Del Rocio Romero Valtierra's 8-year-old son. The mother and her son were transported to Salem Hospital. The mother was released but her son is still in intensive care.

Patrick her two children were also transported to Salem Hospital. Police said they are recovering from minor injuries.

Everyone was wearing a seat belt, police said.

I wonder if the 18 year could have waited before pulling out into the path of the car. I wonder if the lady who hit them was going too fast!

This is the saddest thing to hear of. The thoughts of her family. What their lives are going through! How terrible! People need to learn how to drive! My prayers will forever be with her family. That little brother will always remember this. Their mom will forever be heart broken. I reach myself out and want that family to know i will be praying for them as often as they cross my mind. God. What. The. Frizz?!
