16-year-old boy critically injured, 14-year-old boy injured after the pickup they are riding, driven by Nathan A. Nagel, 22, crashes into a tree while avoiding a deer, on Oak Street in Lockport Township.

A 16-year-old boy was critically injured in a Saturday night crash while riding with a driver arrested for DUI, police said. Will County Sheriff's police said the crash happened around 9:45 p.m. in the 400 block of Oak Street. According to police reports, a northbound 2005 Chevrolet Silverado crossed into the southbound lane, went into a skid, struck two trees on the passenger side and smashed into a mailbox and boulder on the side of the road. Deputies reportedly found the rear tire on the other side of the street and bottles of beer behind the passenger seat. Nathan A. Nagel, 22, of the 600 block of Oak Street, told deputies he was taking his 14-year-old brother and a 16-year-old friend home when when a deer came into the road and he had to swerve, according to police. After a deputy questioned Nagel and reviewed blood tests at Silver Cross Hospital, Nagel was arrested on a charge of driving under the influence of alcohol and released on bond. Nagel's brother was treated and released. His friend was airlifted to Loyola Medical Center in Maywood with "head and spinal trauma," police said. His injuries were considered "life-threatening," police said.
