One dead, three critical after fiery Arlington crash
Two people were reportedly trapped and four were taken to a local hospital in critical condition. One person has since died.
A crash involving three vehicles in south Arlington early Wednesday morning left one woman dead and three other people injured. The incident happened at about 2:45 a.m. in the eastbound lanes of Interstate-20, near New York Avenue.
Authorities stated that two cars and a tanker truck somehow collided, but the details surrounding the wreck are still under investigation. Officials do not believe that the tanker truck is responsible for the crash, but they are still not sure what happened with the two cars. The crash scene was located directly underneath the New York Avenue bridge over the highway.
Four people were taken to nearby hospitals. At least two of the victims went to Medical Center of Arlington, while another victim was transported to JPS Hospital in Fort Worth. The woman who died has been identified as 57-year-old Elaine Plummer.
The freeway was shut down for a few hours overnight while police conducted an investigation and crews worked to clean up debris. There was no leak from the tanker truck, which helped in the cleanup efforts. Lanes started to open for traffic again at around 6:00 a.m. on Wednesday morning.
