"She (Katherine Babak) was a great girl who had a heart of gold. She will greatly be missed. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Valerie and Earlena’s family. We ask everyone to pray for them, as out little girl is no longer her."
Montville Police say 26-year-old Jeremy Goodrich of Rittman was driving a Jeep Grand Cherokee on River Styx Road when he crossed the center line and hit a Plymouth Acclaim driven by 16-year-old Katherine Babak of Bath Township.
“People don’t always see the human side of law enforcement. We are all humans on the other side of this uniform. We all have families and most all of us have children and I, myself, having a teenage son that’s going to start driving, this does hit home. It hits home with all of us that were there,” said Neil, who was at the scene of the crash.
Police tell Newschannel5 they do not believe speed was a factor in the crash. Investigators plan to go back to the tow yard tomorrow to take measurements on the vehicles.
“It’s just so sad, and we are all terribly impacted by this,” said Boroff. “Something like this has such a sobering effect on the entire school district and the community. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family.”
Jeremy Goodrich, 27, is charged with one count of aggravated vehicular homicide, two counts of aggravated vehicular assault, and three counts of drug possession in the Aug. 3 incident.
Jeremy Goodrich was driving an SUV on River Styx road when he crossed the centerline and struck a car containing three teenagers head on. Katherine Babak, 16-years-old and the car's driver, died at the scene. The passengers Valerie Snyder and Earlena Couch were hospitalized in serious condition. The crash is still under investigation and no charges have been filed.
